Speech Therapy

Speech-Language Pathologists evaluate and treat swallowing disorders to help individuals achieve a safe diet level, without risk of choking and aspiration, which supports nutrition and hydration. Speech-Language Pathologists also facilitate an individual’s ability to communicate (focusing on articulation, language, or voice) and perform cognitive tasks to increase their independence and safety within their living environment. Treatment plans are established based upon individual needs and may include:

  • Recovery of speech, language, voice
  • Memory and cognitive skills
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Oral muscle functioning and strength required for speaking and swallowing
  • Swallowing management and diet recommendations

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists assist injured, ill, or disabled individuals in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining their skills needed for completion of their activities of daily living (ADL). ADL include the tasks individuals perform every day, such as self-care, work, and leisure.

Occupational Therapists may optimize an individual’s ADL performance through:

  • Facilitation of fine motor coordination, strength, and functional use of the extremities
  • Education and training in self-care tasks, including eating, grooming, toileting, dressing, and bathing
  • Training in compensatory techniques and/or adaptive equipment use to promote independence and ease with daily living tasks
  • Assessment and training in safety within the home environment, including mobility, emergency response, and performance of self-care and home management tasks
  • Wheelchair management and training to facilitate independent mobility
  • Orthotic management to facilitate or maintain available range of motion

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapists provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities in patients with injury or disease. In the SNF setting, Physical Therapists treat movement dysfunctions and restore physical health and functional abilities through:

  • Therapeutic Exercises, including progressive resistive exercises (PRE), flexibility exercises, range of motion exercise, and postural exercises
  • Static/dynamic balance training for sitting and standing activities to prevent or decrease risks for falls
  • Education and training in the areas of bed mobility, transfers and ambulation including use of appropriate assistive device for mobility
  • Use of therapeutic modalities, including ultrasound, diathermies, and electrical stimulation\ TENS for pain management

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory Therapists provide therapeutic evaluation and treatment for individuals with pulmonary diseases, including chronic respiratory diseases. In the SNF setting, Respiratory Therapists may provide the following services:

  • Interview and examine individuals with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders
  • Evaluate individuals through use of tests to measure volume and flow of oxygen with inhalation and exhalation
  • Provide individual-specific treatments, including chest physiotherapy and aerosol medications
  • Educate individuals on respiratory medications and equipment use

Massage Therapy

Synchrony Rehab offers Assisted Living and Independent Living communities with licensed massage therapists upon requests.
